even though she died two years before i was born, there were always tabloids in the grocery store about JonBenét Ramsey’s death and “new breaks in the case”. i would always stare at them and wonder who the pretty blonde girl was that died. surprisingly i didn’t know anything about 9/11 until grade school.

JonBenét’s murder is the first thing I really remember, news-story-wise. I actually refused to do pageantry because I thought that if I did, I was gonna get raped and murdered like she did. I still think it was her parents, too.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller video/movie coming out. It was a super big deal.

I always say Nixon/Vietnam, but I think that’s a memory of a story I was told. It’s probably really Jimmy Carter getting elected/1976 Olympics.
